In the spring of 1820, a young man named Joseph Smith, raised in the Burnt Over District of New York, claimed an angel gave him some golden plates and new instructions from God! Ten years later, he founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormons! After Joseph Smith was murdered in 1844 for destroying a newspaper that was critical of him and his new religion, the Mormons, led by Brigham Young, headed west and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, which remains the headquarters of this controversial religion to this day!
